Why Gradual Shifts in Perception Bring More Permanent Change
Many people come to me wanting instant change. And sometimes we achieve just that. But more often change comes gradually and happens over time.
In my opinion, this is a good thing!
The problem with instant change is that the new way of being is often so foreign that it feels uncomfortable. And because of that, your body will work really hard to get back into that comfort zone. Which unfortunately means it will change right back into that old way of being (you know…. the one you’re trying to get rid of). When change is gradual however, you have time to get used to the new incrementally so that you don’t have that urge to go back to what was.
As an example think back to when you were 5. I’m sure you don’t see or experience the world the way you did back then. And yet you probably can’t pinpoint any one moment when things changed. You simply grew up and over time your perceptions and experiences changed into what they are today. If however you went to bed one night as a 5 year old and woke up the next morning as a 30 year old you’d probably freak out! You simply wouldn’t have the tools or frame of reference to fit into the world as an adult.
The same goes with manifesting big change. If you’ve been eeking out a meager living just above the poverty line for many years and you suddenly win the lottery, you probably won’t have the tools to handle that huge of a change! So it’s very likely you’d handle it poorly, or even freak out like that year old, and very soon you’d find yourself right back to the poverty line you’re most comfortable with.
So when things shift slowly and gradually don’t get frustrated. Instead be happy that you’re taking positive steps toward permanent change in your life!
