Would the Universe Steer You Wrong?
I talk a lot about trusting the Universe and following the leads it gives you. I know that can be a little scary, especially when those nudges and leads fly in the face of logic and seem unusual or even harmful. I’ve been there myself and there were times those “leaps of faith” were just too big for me at that moment. But one thing I’ve learned through this whole manifesting journey is this: The Universe never steers you wrong. It always guides you toward the things you want, and it does so in the most efficient way possible.
Yes, sometimes you have to go out of your comfort zone.
Yes, sometimes you have to go left instead of right.
Yes, sometimes you have to let things go.
Yes, sometimes you have to go places or do things you wouldn’t normally do.
This is all part of growth and it is necessary for you to get those really big dreams you say you want!
On the other hand, the Universe never puts you in danger.
If you are diabetic the Universe would never guide you to subsist on a diet of doughnuts and ice cream.
If you have $753 in the bank the Universe would never guide you to write and mail $58,371 worth of checks and “trust” that they’d be covered.
The Unverse would never guide you to rob a bank, crash your car, drink poison, or do anything else harmful to your person (unless you were manifesting robbing a bank… then who knows :P)
And the Universe would never ask you to do things that you consider “wrong or immoral,” though many of us could use expanding in that area.
So what does it mean if you think you’re getting guidance that runs contrary to logic? First, understand that in addition to messages from the Universe and our inner being, we also have our own chatter going on constantly in our head. So it’s possible to mix up the two and think you’re hearing the Universe when you’re really hearing your own limited self trying to take control.
Second, it could be that the Universe really is trying to help you move past your comfort zone so you can get those really big things on your list. You can’t be a millionaire for instance if you aren’t willing to make more than $12 an hour. You can’t reshape your body if you aren’t willing to try new foods and ways of eating. As the saying goes, “the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results!”
So how do you know if it’s really the Universe or your own self messing with you? And how can you be brave enough to take a plunge and do something you wouldn’t normally do?
Here’s what I do:
- If it’s a small thing I just go with it. What harm is there in turning left instead of right? Worst case scenario is I get to my destination a few minutes later.
- When I put my order in with the Universe, I include things like “it has to be within my comfort zone, it has to be legal, moral & ethical, it has to feel right, it has to be fun and easy, etc.” That way if a “nudge” makes me feel really uncomfortable or icky I know it’s not from the Universe because I already set those parameters.
- When something stretches my limits a bit, rather than discounting it right away, I take a step back and try to determine if I’m being reasonable about it or not. I mean lets face it… we all have some weird and arbirtary limits that don’t make sense when put in perspective with the rest of the world. Seriously, there was a time I was so shy I refused to return a library book! Looking back I can see that was a self-made (and destructive) limit that made no sense in the grand scheme of life. So now I look at those nudges from the Universe and determine if my discomfort is reasonable or if I’m limiting myself.
- Try some smaller version of what you feel led to do and work up to “the big one.” I remember doing this as a kid the first time I rode a roller coaster. I was terrified but at the same time I wanted to do it. So what did I finally do? I headed to kiddie land and rode the little roller coaster. Then I moved up, and up until I was riding the biggest coaster in the park over and over again! Yes it was waayyyy…. out of my comfort zone. But after I got over that I had so much fun!
Ok so the bottom line is this…. the Universe NEVER steers you wrong. It is on your side and wants only to help you get the things you say you want. Yes, that means change, growth and expansion. And yes that can be scary. But the end result is wonderful!
